If you’re thinking about buying an electric Mercedes-Benz, you are probably happy with the fact that you won’t have to spend an arm and a leg on gas anymore. Charging up an EV, however, isn’t free, and it’s important to understand Mercedes-Benz electricity rates so you’ll know how much you have to pay. This guide will give you some good insight.
Calculating Your Electricity Costs at Home
The first thing you’ll want to do when preparing to buy an EV is to have a charger installed in your home. This way you can always ensure that you can keep the battery charged.
To figure out what charging will cost, take a look at your electric bill to find the kWh, which is the cost per kilowatt hour. This can vary widely, but right now the national average is about $0.14/kWh.
Now, to determine how much you will need to pay, you can use this formula:
(DR / RPK) x CPK
- DR – Your car’s driving range in miles
- RPK – Range per kWh
- CPK – Cost per kWh
Divide the driving range by the range per kWh and then multiply by the cost per kWh to find out how much you will have to pay.
Calculating Your Electricity Costs with a Public Charger
Figuring out how much a public charging station will cost you is a little trickier because public charge rates vary much more widely. But, as long as you know the cost per kWh of a specific network, you can use the same formula above to calculate your expenses.
