Another nice thing about the 2017 Mercedes-Benz SL model’s design is that its body structure is 20 percent stronger this year, yet 300lbs lighter. So not only is it safer, it’s also more comfortable and more agile. How is this possible, you ask? Simple: the body is derived from a specific type of next-gen aluminum. The not-so-simple answer is how this aluminum is created, but if you’re curious, the process includes die-casting, chilled-casting, hydroforming, and extruding. Most people require dual degrees in engineering and metallurgy to understand how the process works – as for us; we’re thrilled that it makes the 2017 Mercedes-Benz SL better than ever.
Depending on which trim you choose, all of this style will be powered by one of several exceptionally capable engines. For starters, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz SL450 gets a 362hp V6 engine, and the 2017 Mercedes-Benz SL550 uses a 449hp V8. From there you move into the rarified air of the AMG® series – namely, a 577hp V8 for the 2017 Mercedes-Benz AMG® SL63 and a blisteringly-fast, 621hp V12 engine in the top-line 2017 Mercedes-Benz AMG® SL65.
